The fastest and tastiest place to ski and snowboard in Western Canada? Looks like it’s Whistler/Blackcomb, according to Andrew Evans of National Geographic Traveler. Evans, the lucky bastard, just spent the last two weeks shredding the slopes at some of the best mountains in Alberta and British Columbia. He’s listed some faves in a recent blog post (five of his eight picks for eating and drinking are in Whistler).
Earlier this month he wrote a review of Whistler Blackcomb’s LIVE app for iPhone. In that post Evans quotes a snowboarder who says he used the app to clock a speed of 135 kmh (84 mph) on the Dave Murray Downhill. Andrew’s top speed was a modest 104 kmh. Perhaps he was weighed down by all that awesome food he’d been eating …
Neighbourhoods become islands and streets are canals in this great San Francisco city map created by blogger Burrito Justice. More information on the map and how to buy it as a poster can be found here.
The Longest Way Home blog isn’t just tooting its own horn when it refers to its travel blog and website directory as the best in the world. The directory, which features hundreds of links, is broken down by region, niche and category. This is not just a list of every travel blog under the sun, it is a carefully constructed list of writing that is actually worth reading. There are a few things missing (would like to see more destination specific Canada/US Blogs, such as Rori Travels Florida, Beat of Hawaii and 604 Pulse), but this really is one heck of a directory.
If you sign up for The Longest Way Home’s email list you get an OPML file containing all the travel blogs in the directory (I’m still waiting for the file to be sent—it’s like Christmas anticipation all over again!).
